Summer school -- What's it all about?
This has been a good experience for me. Some time ago, I had set up accounts on flickr, blogger, bloglines, librarything, and I completely forgot about all of them. Now that the memory has been resurrected, it's been a lot of fun to develop the skills to use them. And, it's been surprisingly easy to get those skills. I can envision the library staff making good use of librarything, blogger, del.icio.us. Kathy, Maya, and Laurie have set good examples for us on how to get it done. Wikis and blogs will serve us better than the current website, surely! And the sooner we can have a more attractive and informative presence on the internets (intertubes?) so much the better. Thanks to the summer school organizers: well done.
WikiWikiWiki Silicon Valley Reads WikiWikiWiki
I've been working on a Wiki all the livelong day, thanks to Abby and Silicon Valley Reads
Abby learned how and showed me how to use it. As you may know, PACL is participating in the program for the first time. The book is The Distant Land of My Father, by Bo Caldwell. The wiki has been quite helpful for informing all members and invitees of progress in setting up programs, sharing meeting minutes, updating our calendar, and the like. Please feel free to check it out.

I set up a Facebook account, and now have one friend (cue sound of very tiny violin). I think I'm not a Facebook/MySpace kinda gal. My preference is always for face-to-face (if I absolutely have to talk with others), and I find social networking sites just a little too exhibitionist for my taste. Do I want to know that much about you, stranger? Do I want you, stranger, to know that much about me?! I think that showing one's self to all and sundry is a "reality tv" phenomenon which appeals to a broad spectrum of people. I'm just a secretive weirdo who'd prefer to hatch her plans for world dominance and the subjugation of you humans away from prying eyes. Have I said too much?

A word (or two) about del.icio.us
I'm not sure that this is the best way to keep personal bookmarks. It does mean you can get at them anywhere, but it does seem a bit cumbersome to add and tag them (or am I just that lazy: don't answer that) . I can see that it could be useful for a library, an easy way to pool info. I'll try it out for a bit and we'll see if my view changes.

My Flickr link

I'm so advanced, I've come back around. Once again, I've discovered I already have a Flickr account: only 2 pictures so far, but check it out. ***Update: This summer school lark is not bad; I've finally got around to uploading some of my Japanese trip pix. I've also found the librarian trading card of my dreams (I had a dream that looked just like this!)

LibraryThing
It turns out that I already had a LibraryThing account, but I forgot the password (doh! that's not the password. duh. neither is that ;> ) So anyway, I haven't been reviewing or tagging so the link is just to the list. I will rate and tag, someday.
Yoshitoshi woodblock prints at the Asian Art Museum
Yoshitoshi is my favorite woodblock artists, and this exhibit at the Asian Art Museum is wonderful! The show will close on 2 September; don't miss it! For those of you who like manga or would like to find out more about manga, the Asian Art also has an excellent exhibit on Tezuka, arguably the "father of manga." This is a good intro to the artist, the art, and the show

YouTube video review
So, I saw a video that combined two of my interests: libraries and ninjas. "Ninja Librarian," at 54 minutes is a masterpiece (if you like sickness, which, as you know, I do) Check it out.
